Learn, Lead, Succeed - Together...............August 2018
Welcome Back to School!
Dear Methacton Families,
On Wednesday, August 29 we will welcome students back to school for the start of the Methacton School District's 2018-2019 school year! Like you, these final days of summer break bring with them a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation for the start of a new journey we'll take together.
Our building custodians, secretaries, administrators, and other support staff have been hard at work all summer preparing for the return of our teachers and more than 4,700 students! Allow me to publicly thank these critical staff members for their efforts. Without their dedication and attention to detail, we could not begin our school year successfully.
Each year, we discuss an overarching theme for the school year. This sentiment is designed to set the tone, and generate excitement with this new start. This year, join me in celebrating, "The Power of WE!"
In words often attributed to the Greek philosopher Aristotle (translated), "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Simply put, what one can do well - many can often do better. WE are powerful and capable. WE are committed to excellence! WE will set high goals and WE will achieve! As WE are embarking upon a new school year, we ask our parents and guardians and community members to play a collective role in the power of WE!
On Monday, August 27 our faculty and staff return to our buildings for professional development, meetings, and time to collaborate in final preparation for the first day of school. I plan to talk with them about our theme and how WE, as champions for all our students, can encourage all to achieve their potential.
I know our students have MANY champions. We all know about the impact that teachers have on the lives of their students. Their time, dedication, and influence is almost impossible to quantify. Yet together — our teachers, students, parents and guardians, and community members — can have an extraordinary impact that can last a lifetime.
Along with members of my administration, I'll be visiting our schools on Wednesday morning and will also be at back to school events throughout the district. Please stop and say hello! Thank you for being champions for your children, our students, our schools, our district, and our community.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe, Superintendent of Schools

Every Student Succeeds Act - ESSA
Earlier this year, The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) submitted its proposal for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) to the United States Department of Education for approval. The ESSA legislation extends the definition of student success beyond academic achievement. As a result, beginning this fall, PDE will transition from the School Performance Profile (SPP) to the Future Ready PA Index, which will use dashboard model to highlight how schools are performing and making progress on multiple indicators.
As it becomes available, our district will provide information through our Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment website. At this time, general information about ESSA and the Future Ready PA Index may be found here.
