If your child will be absent or will arrive to school late please call the child check line. (610)831-5325

State your child’s name, grade, teacher’s name and the specific reason for the absence.

Methacton School district utilizes the Alert-Now program to notify parents about delayed openings, early dismissals, school closings and emergencies. Full information and how to sign up for this program is on the district website.      www.Methacton.org

Your child will need to bring an art smock to school for art day. An extra large t-shirt works well. It is important that your child is able to put on and take off the smock without adult assistance. Please put it in a Ziplock baggie clearly marked with his/her name.

    Birthdays

    Birthday Invitations

Your child will need a full sized backpack. Please write your address and the bus number your child takes HOME from school on the inside of the backpack.

If your child would like to provide a special treat for the class in honor of their birthday please pick a non-food item (pencils, stickers, fun shaped erasers, etc.) or have your child bring a book of his/her choice from home to be read aloud in class. Due to allergies please refrain from bringing in food items.

Please do not send birthday invitations to be passed out at school unless you are inviting the ENTIRE class. (All the boys and all the girls). If you are inviting just girls, just boys or just a select few children the invitations should be mailed home.

    Conferences

    Clearances

All kindergarten students have a conference in November. The February conferences are optional at the request of parent or teacher. I am more than happy to meet with you on additional occasions, just let me know so we can set something up!

Please complete the clearances necessary to volunteer in our class. Information about clearances is on the Methacton website.

    Emergency Closings

Please sign up for the Alert-Now program. If school is closed for a snow delay or any emergency you will get a phone call. A two hour delay means a modified kindergarten schedule:

AM kindergarten starts at 10:55 ends at 12:55.

PM kindergarten starts at 1:45 ends at 3:35

The mid-day kindergarten bus schedule is changed by one hour.

For example: Instead of dropping off at 11:55 your child would be home at 12:55

Instead of picking up at 12:20 your child would be picked up at 1:20.

    Headphones

Homework folders will go home on Tuesday beginning in October. Please work with your child a little bit each night. It will be due the following Monday.

Each Kinder will need to bring in small headphones (NOT earbuds since they are difficult to fit into their little ears).

    I

    Independent

Please work with your child on being able to zip coats, put on mittens and gloves independently. Kindergarten students take great pride in completing tasks independently!

    J

    Journals

One strategy that will be used to convey the vital concept that “print conveys meaning” is the frequent use of journal writing.

    K

    Kid Writing

Our writing program builds on what each child already knows. Kid Writing begins with pictures or random strings of letters then moves to words, spaces between words and eventually sentences. Your children will be praised and encouraged for all attempts and accomplishments in writing.

Please remind your child to put their book in their backpack on library day.

    M

    Math

Math in Focus-Singapore Math is fully aligned with the Common Core State Standards.  It builds a solid foundation for mastery of skills/problem solving and will enable children to become life-long, critical mathematical thinkers.

Kindergarten orientation is the place to ask any questions regarding the first week of school.

Curriculum questions and questions about the rest of the year will be answered at Back to School Night. It is extremely important to attend both Orientation and Back to School Night as different information is covered at each meeting.

    Restroom

    Reading

Kindergarten students receive a report card two times during the year. Once in January and again at the end of the school year.

We are lucky enough to have a restroom connected to our classroom. Your child is expected to complete proper bathroom and hand washing etiquette independently.

The Kindergarten students will develop skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking through the use of the reading program called Wonders, published by McGraw Hill Education.  This research-based program offers a balanced approach to literacy learning that incorporates shared reading, guided reading and independent reading, as well as focused skill and strategy instruction. Systematic instructions in the five areas of reading instruction – phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, robust vocabulary, and comprehension – are included.  A wealth of digital resources will provide unmatched support for building a strong literacy foundation.  Wonders also integrates writing into the reading process.

    Transportation

     Forms

The First Day of School Transportation form should be completed and returned to school on the first day or at Orientation.

If your child will have a change in the usual way that they go home please complete the

Change in Transportation form. This is handy for play dates with a friend, going home early due to doctor’s appointment, etc… Both forms can be found on the kindergarten website.  www.Methacton.org

    U

    Underwear

Don’t be surprised if your child comes home with a plastic bag holding their underwear … accidents happen! Our wonderful nurse keeps spare clothing in her office. If this occurs, please wash and return the borrowed clothes promptly so they will be available for the next child.

    V

    Volunteers

ALL GUESTS (including familiar faces) are required to check in at the office and wear a visitor’s badge when volunteering at our school.  If you wish to volunteer for special activities with our students you must complete the necessary clearance forms. These forms may be found on the website.

    Water

www.Methacton.org is a wonderful resource! The main page carries information for the whole district. Click on Eagleville’s home page. Then under Teachers click on my name for information specific to our classroom.

Water breaks will be provided throughout the day.  It is not necessary to send in a water bottle for your child.

    X

    X-citing

This is going to be such an exciting year! There are so many fun projects and activities throughout the school year.

    Y

    Younger Siblings

It is in your child’s and the programs best interest to have our parent volunteers available WITHOUT younger siblings. This not only allows your full attention to be focused on the classroom activity but it also allows some special time between you and your kindergartener.

    Z

    Zzzzz’s

Make sure your child gets plenty of rest each night. Setting and keeping a bedtime is a wonderful gift you can give your child. It will help them be alert and ready to learn each day!
