    The Methacton School District Health Program facilitates the healthy growth and development of our district children of school age in Pennsylvania.  This program prevents and detects health problems, and maintains and improves the health status of our students.
     

    The role of the certified school health nurse is uniquely suited to facilitate the development of comprehensive school health programs that strengthen the educational process by improving the health status of children and by facilitating healthy educational practices and environments.  This new role of the certified school health nurse emphasizes the following core values:

     

    •     All children, including individuals with disabilities, have access to quality, comprehensive school health programs which are developmentally appropriate, community-driven, family-centered, and culturally competent in responding to the needs of culturally, ethnically, linguistically, and economically diverse populations.
    •     Services focus primarily on prevention, early intervention, and strengthening the ability of children, youth and families to help themselves.
    •     Collaborative links between education, health, welfare, and other agencies, public and private, assure coordination, integration, and continuum of services in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
    •     Services are of high quality and be in accordance with nursing theory, standards of practice, and laws and regulations of the Commonwealth.
