    Review Strategies

     

    1.       Word Card Flashcards (Yellow Card Stock Sheet)

    2.      Day of the Week Envelopes-sort word cards evenly in 5 envelopes labeled with a different day of the week-practice one group each night.  (Monday on Monday, etc.)  This is a great way to practice previous lists.

    3.      Word Sorts-sort word cards by ABC order, vowel sounds, word length etc.  Some of these skills will come later but word length can be used now in the fall!

    4.      Word Hunt-look for word card words in the newspaper, books, magazines, etc.

    5.      Silly Sentences-Put word cards in sequence to make sentences-silly or serious J

    6.      Word folder/dictionary-list words alphabetically in a file folder-use for reference when writing at home.

    7.      “Can you guess my word?”-Using either the Word folder or a set of word cards give a sequence of clues for your child to guess the word and then they could do it back to you.

    EXAMPLE-If looking at these words: walk, get, like, will, the, them, end

       Clue 1: My word has 4 letters.

         Clue 2: My word has a short e sound.

         Clue 3: My word rhymes with “stem.”

         What is my word?  Them

    8.  Write the words using a blue and red crayon.  Write the consonants

         in blue and the vowels in red.

    9.      Build words with magnetic letters on a cookie tray

    10.  Trace the word in the air with your pointer finger while spelling it out loud.
