    0601 INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS I

    This course will introduce students to the world of business. This semester class will explore concepts such as needs and wants, supply and demand, types of industry and economies, technology and computers in business, as well as the student’s role as a consumer and how they have influence on our economy. The goal of the course is to give students a basic knowledge and vocabulary of how business in our country works in hopes to prepare them for a future career or simply to equip them to make reasonable consumer and business decisions in
    the future.

    0602 INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS II

    Recommendation: Introduction to Business I
    A continued overview of business in the United States. Students will focus on topics such as accounting/finance, insurance, marketing, and management. The
    goal is for students to understand the basic principles of these business areas and to be able to think critically to solve problems or make suggestions that affect businesses.

    0603 BUSINESS LAW AND PERSONAL FINANCE
    Offered in grades 11-12 .5 credits

    Everyone needs a basic understanding of economic and legal principles. At
    some point in life, this knowledge will be needed to make both personal and professional
    decisions. As a consumer, it is imperative that you know the legal rights
    and responsibilities that you have. You must also understand your role as a
    consumer in a market economy. What laws and consumer decisions affect you
    today? Which laws will affect you in the future? This course will cover important
    legal topics such as Contract Law, Real and Personal Property, Credit
    Relationships, and Insurance. Students will also learn the significance of
    budgeting and planning for the financial needs of today and the future. Further
    financial topics covered will include obtaining credit for major purchases (such
    as cars, major appliances, furniture), budgeting, and investing for retirement.

    0605 ENTREPRENEURSHIP I
    Offered in grades 10-12 .5 credits
    Class meets 6 mods per cycle, 1 semester

    Need to achieve, control of one’s own ideas, ability to be creative are just some
    of the reasons a person might start their own business. Fifty-percent of all
    businesses are started by entrepreneurs or small business owners. They are
    an integral piece of our economy. Many of our students may be in a position
    to start their own business or take over a family business. This course will go
    over the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur as well as the skills and
    knowledge needed to succeed. Key topics will be planning and organizing the
    business, marketing (product, location, price, advertising, etc...), and financial
    management for a small business.

    0608 ENTREPRENEURSHIP II
    Offered in grades 10-12 .5 credits
    Class meets 6 mods per cycle, 1 semester
    Recommendation: Entrepreneurship I
    Entrepreneurship II picks up where the first class ends. Students who have
    ideas for a business will take on the challenge of writing a formal business plan.
    Students will receive help from actual small business owners as well as organizations
    such as SBA and SCORE that will be helpful to their planning.
    Students in this course will be challenged to enter their plan in local and
    regional business plan competitions.

    0609 PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING
    Offered in grades 11,12 .5 credits
    Class meets 6 mods per cycle, 1 semester

    This course is designed to acquaint the student with the role and functioning
    of marketing in a free-enterprise economy, and to prepare the student for
    further study in the marketing field. Topics to be covered include marketing
    research, the marketing mix, product research, target market, media selections,
    and creating and analyzing marketing strategies.

    * 0611 GATEWAY TO COMPUTER LITERACY
    Offered in grade 9 .5 credits
    Class meets 3 mods per cycle, all year
    This course is required for grade 9
    This course will develop competencies and proficiency in fundamental computer
    skills. Students will learn to use a computer as a personal and business tool.
    This course will introduce you to the power of the Microsoft Office program that
    includes four major applications: Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. The introduction
    of this software will involve word processing, spreadsheets, database
    entry, and presentations. Students will learn the necessary skills needed to use
    a personal computer throughout their high school career and beyond. It will also
    assist the student in the completion of the Graduation Project Requirement.
    0617 MICROSOFT OFFICE SPECIALIST I
    (WORD AND EXCEL)
    Offered in grades 10-12 .5 credits
    Class meets 6 mods per cycle, 1 semester
    Prerequisite: Gateway to Computer Literacy or Microsoft Office Level 1
    Gain the knowledge to be a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) in Word and Excel.
    This class will explore the advanced features of Word and Excel to produce professional
    documents and spreadsheets. After completion of this course you will
    have the knowledge to successfully pass the MOS test and become a Microsoft
    Office Specialist. Being a MOS provides a valuable industry credential - proof
    that you have the Office XP applications skills required by colleges and employers.
    0618 MICROSOFT OFFICE SPECIALIST II
    (POWERPOINT, ACCESS, AND OUTLOOK)

    Class meets 6 mods per cycle, 1 semester
    Prerequisite: Gateway to Computer Literacy or Microsoft Office Level 1
    Gain the knowledge to be a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) in PowerPoint,
    Access, and Outlook. This class will explore the advanced features of PowerPoint,
    Access, and Outlook to produce dynamic presentations and manage databases.
    After completion of this course you will have the knowledge to successfully

    ACCOUNTING
    0631 ACCOUNTING
    Offered in grades 10-12 .5 credits
    Class meets 6 mods per cycle, 1 semester
    Recommendation: Introduction to Business
    Students will learn to write checks, balance checkbooks, and prepare tax
    returns. Emphasis will be placed on learning the accounting cycle and analyzing
    transactions for service and merchandising business organized as a sole proprietorships,
    partnerships, and corporations. An excellent course for any
    student considering Business or Accounting as a career.
    0632 AUTOMATED ACCOUNTING
    Offered in grades 11-12 .5 credits
    Class meets 6 mods per cycle, 1 semester
    Recommendation: Accounting I
    The focus of this course will be working on the computer to complete
    advanced accounting concepts. The student will take information gained in
    Accounting I and apply it on the computer for real life accounting simulations.
    This course will prepare you for your future business courses in college and/or
    your career after hight school.
