Absences

Art

If your child will be absent or will arrive to school late please call the child check line. (610) 831-5323

State your child’s name, grade, teacher’s name and the specific reason for the absence. www.Methacton.org     ►Family Resources ►Child Check Numbers

Your child will need to bring an art smock to school on art day. An extra large t-shirt works well. It is important that your child is able to put on / take off the smock without adult assistance. Please make sure it is labeled with your child’s name.

B

Backpacks

Birthdays

Birthday Invitations

Your child will need a full sized backpack. Please write your address and the bus number your child takes HOME from school on the inside of the backpack. If your child is car loop, write Car Loop, or Malvern Van, or YMCA ….

If your child would like to provide a special treat for the class in honor of their birthday please pick a non-food item (pencils, stickers, fun shaped erasers) or consider donating a book to the library.

Please do not send birthday invitations to be passed out at school unless you are inviting the ENTIRE class. (All the boys and all the girls). If you are inviting just girls, just boys or just a select few children the invitations should be mailed home.

Conferences

Clearances

All kindergarten students have a conference in November. The February conferences are optional at the request of parent or teacher. I am more then happy to meet with you on additional occasions, just let me know so we can set something up!

Please complete the clearances necessary to volunteer in our class. Information about clearances is on the Methacton website. www.methacton.org     ►Family Resources ► Parent Resources ►Volunteering

D

Discipline

Directory

1.     Be kind.

2.     Oops note

I give 3 verbal warnings before an oops note. We are learning how to follow rules. If an oops note is sent home please discuss with your child how to make better choices. Please sign and return the next day. Every new day is a fresh start J . This does not occur often because in kindergarten three warnings from the teacher are usually all it takes.

Please include your name, address, phone number and email in the School Directory. This is how your child will be contacted by friends for playdates or to send home birthday invitations. If you check that you prefer to be unlisted, it is extremely hard for classmates to invite your child to birthday parties or set up playdates!

E

Emergency Closings

(AKA the

snow delay schedule)

If school is closed for a snow delay or any emergency you will get a phone call. A two hour delay means a modified kindergarten schedule.           www.methacton.org    ►Family Resources   ►School Closing Information

AM kindergarten starts at 10:55 ends at 12:55.          PM kindergarten starts at 1:45 ends at 3:35

The mid-day kindergarten bus schedule is changed by one hour.

For example: Instead of dropping off at11:55 your child would be home at12:55.   Instead of picking up at 12:20 your child would be picked up at 1:20.

Several times a year our guidance counselor Mrs. Ehmer visits our classroom to teach important social issue lessons. She is also available if your child needs help dealing with difficult issues or problems.

H

Homework

Homework is sent home at the beginning of each week. Please work with your child on a little bit each night.

I

Independent

Please work with your child on being able to zip coats, put on mittens and gloves independently. Kindergarten students take great pride in completing tasks independently!

J

Journals

One strategy that will be used to convey the vital concept that “print conveys meaning” is the frequent use of journal writing.

K

Kid Writing

Our writing program builds on what each child already knows. Kid Writing begins with pictures or random strings of letters then moves to words, spaces between words and eventually sentences. Your children will be praised and encouraged for all attempts and accomplishments in writing.

L

Library

Please remind your child to put their book in their backpack on library day.

Kindergarten students will develop math skills through the use of the Math in Focus program.

You may contact Mrs. Morgan by sending a note to school with your child, through email (mmorgan@methacton.org or Please do not send time sensitive emails as a substitute teacher will not have access to my email. (IE, changes in how your child goes home that day should be a note)A note in the folder is also a great way to communicate as well.i

N

Orientation

Open House

Kindergarten orientation is the place to ask any questions regarding the first week of school.

Curriculum questions and questions about the rest of the year will be answered on Open House night. It is extremely important to attend both Orientation and Open House as different information is covered at each meeting.

P. E.

Parties

.

Please help your child wear appropriate clothing and sneakers on PE day.

Homeroom parents are in charge of party activities. We will contact the Homeroom Parents throughout the year to plan these fun filled events. (Fall Festival, Winter Party, Valentine’s Day combined with 100th Day of School and end of the year Fun Day are usually the only four parties we have.)

Q

Questions

Kindergarten is a new experience for many families. It is definitely a change from pre-school. If you have any questions about curriculum, procedures, report cards or anything at all please send in a note with your child or email me at

             MMorgan@Methacton.org

Please include the full name of both parent and child plus in written notes.

Report Cards

Restroom

Reading

Remind Site

Kindergarten students receive a report card two times during the year. Once in February and again at the end of the school year. These are posted through the online system.

We are lucky enough to have a restroom connected to our classroom. Your child is expected to complete proper bathroom and hand washing etiquette independently.

The Kindergarten students will develop skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking through the use of the reading program called Wonders, published by McGraw-Hill.

Please sign up for Remind. I use it to send reminders home throughout the year. Full directions on how to sign up will be given at Orientation and Open House. Or go to the site. www.Remind.com ► Closs Code @7ba367

► Number 81010    *** Please note this code is to connect to Mrs. Morgan's class ****

S

Supplies

Your child will need a set of headphones to keep at school all year. Please label the headphones with your child’s name.

Please purchase headphones that go over the head, not ear buds. (Amazon sells a great brand for kids called HeadFoams that are very sturdy!) A sample will be shown at orientation if you wish to wait to purchase this item.

A full-sized backpack and a pair of headphones are the only supplies you will need to purchase for your child.

We provide everything else!

Throughout the year I will send notes home if we need special items for class projects or run out of any items.

U

Underwear

Don’t be surprised if your child comes home with a plastic bag holding their underwear … accidents happen! Our wonderful nurse keeps spare clothing in her office. If this occurs, please wash and return the borrowed clothes promptly so they will be available for the next child.

V

Volunteers

ALL GUESTS (including familiar faces) are required to check in at the office and wear a visitor’s badge when volunteering at our school. If you wish to volunteer for special activities with our students you must complete the necessary clearance forms. These forms may be found on the Methacton website. www.Methacton.org ►Family Resources ►Parent Resources ►Volunteering

W

Website

Water

www.Methacton.org is a wonderful resource! The main page carries information for the whole district. Click on Woodland’s home page. Then under Teachers click on Kindergarten for information specific to our classroom.

Please provide a full water bottle for your child each and every day. Sports style bottles are best, when they tip over only little spills. Water only, no juice, juice boxes, sport drinks, soda or flavored water. We’d like to keep ants out of our room! If your child’s backpack has an outer side pocket, that would be the perfect home for the water bottle.

X

X-citing

This is going to be such an exciting year! There are so many fun projects and activities throughout the school year.

Y

Younger Siblings

It is in your child’s and the programs best interest to have our parent volunteers available WITHOUT younger siblings. This not only allows your full attention to be focused on the classroom activity but it also allows some special time between you and your kindergartener.

Z

Zzzzz’s

Make sure your child gets plenty of rest each night. Setting and keeping a bedtime is a wonderful gift you can give your child. It will help them be alert and ready to learn each day!
