•  Expected vs. Unexpected:

The language I use to discuss positive behaviors is "expected" which means that they are showing the teacher or peers what they are expected to do.  To discuss negative behaviors, I use the word "unexpected" meaning that what the student decides to do is unexpected and might make others feel uncomfortable.  Below is a poster I display throughout the building.

    Whole Body Listening:

I frequently use the curriculum called Social Thinking® by Michelle Garcia Winner throughout my lessons.  I teach my students that along with their ears, they should listen with their eyes, hands, feet, heart, and brain - their whole body!
