• Physical Education 2016 – 2017

    1.     Wear sneakers and comfortable clothing.

    ·         SNEAKERS must be worn and tied TIGHTLY to participate in PE class.

    ·         Crocs, sandals, flip-flops, boots, dress shoes, steel toe shoes, open toe shoes, or shoes with marking soles will NOT be allowed.

    ·         On PE days please wear loose comfortable clothing so that you will be able to perform to the best of your ability.

    2.      What students need for class:
          A positive attitude, willingness to always put forth their best effort, an ability to get along with others, and the qualities of “Character Counts” (Trustworthy,       Caring, Fairness, Citizenship, Respect, and Responsibility).

     

    3.      Safety:
          All students are expected to behave in a safe manner that does not place themselves or others in danger or injury.

     

    4.      Excuse Notes. If you cannot participate in physical education, you will be required to complete an “activity journal” of that day’s activities.

          a. Parents If an injury or illness may prevent your child from doing their best please write a note explaining the situation. I will always try to involve your child in       the activities in a safe manner. No more than 2 will be accepted as an excuse in a marking period.

          b. Doctor’s If an injury or illness prevents a child from participating in class a doctor’s note will be required. A Doctor’s note should indicate what you can do. If       it says, “No Physical Education class,” then you cannot be involved in any activity no matter how minor the injury may be.

          c. Music Lessons – Check-in with your teacher prior to a lesson so that they are aware of your absence. You must reschedule if you have a lesson the same day as       a Fitnessgram Test.

    5.      FITNESSGRAM – Assesses student health-related fitness, provides individual prescriptive reports, and offers tools to promote lifelong health and fitness.

          a.       Students are not compared to others

          b.      Not a measure of physical skill, but of physical health

          c.       This assessments is not graded, you cannot fail. It’s a tool to identify your fitness needs and guide you to make an activity plan to address those needs.

          d.      Assessments – 15 meter PACER test (Aerobic capacity), Curl-ups (abdominal strength/endurance), Flexed Arm-Hang (Upper body strength/endurance),                Trunk Lift (Trunk strength and flexibility), Sit and Reach (Flexibility)
