Bi-Weekly Journal Directions

           This year, we will be completing a home journal once a week for homework.  Your choices for writing are endless. You could write a story, a poem, a letter, a journal entry, or even your biography. You can write fiction including realistic fiction, fantasy, a tall tale or a book report. The choice is always yours. 

            There are some rules. 

You must do your best to write in complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation.  Each story (fiction) should have a beginning, middle and end. If you are writing non-fiction, you should have main ideas and details. Work hard to include many details in your writing. Sentences should be stretched to add description and voice (The reader can hear you talking). 

            Remember who your audience is--- The person who will be reading your writing. What do you have to explain to help them understand what is happening? Make a movie in your mind and show what is happening in the scene.

            Try to add some of the things we are talking about in writing class. Using description words and adding similes helps to draw a picture for the audience.

            Lastly, have fun! Experiment with new kinds of sentences and spellings that you are not sure of. Add pizazz.

            Please follow these minimum guidelines. More is always accepted!

September-October: At least 6 sentences

November-December: At least 8 sentences

January-February: At least 10 sentences

March-June: 12 or more sentences
