    Advanced Placement Courses and Exams

    The Advanced Placement or AP courses are offered in secondary school classrooms and offer a curriculum developed collaboratively between college faculty members and secondary teachers who shape both the content and the final assessments. Depending on the college or university, admission and enrollment officials recognize and may reward the achievement of AP students who demonstrate through successful exam scores that they are ready for the challenge of higher education and can, in turn, contribute new thoughts and ideas to the communities at their colleges and universities.

    The AP Examinations are administered each year in May and represent the culmination of college-level work in a given discipline in a secondary school setting.  AP Examinations are graded on a 1-5 scale with 5 being the highest score.  If you earn an AP Exam score of 3 or higher, chances are you can receive credit, be moved into advanced placement tracks or classes, or both from your college. Most colleges and universities in the United States and in institutions in more than 60 other countries grant credit and placement for AP scores or acknowledge AP scores in the admission process.     Due to the high numbers of Methacton High School students who enroll in our AP courses and take the corresponding exams, as well as the strict requirements for the administration of those exams, we are not able to accommodate the administration of AP exams for courses we do not offer. Students who choose to take AP exams for courses not offered through Methacton High School should plan to make arrangements to take those exams at another site.
