• The Role of the School Counselor

The role of the school counselor is defined by the American School Counseling Association and upheld by the Methacton School District School Counselors.

Here at Skyview Upper Elementary School, the role of the school counselor is to implement a developmental guidance program that is aligned to the standards of the American School Counseling National Model of School Counseling Programs, to Pennsylvania's Core Curriculum standards, and to Pennsylvania's Career and Education standards.

Components of the School Counseling Program include program foundation, program management, delivery of the program, and accountability.  The delivery of the program includes individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, parent educational sessions, and school wide programming.

Through the developmental school counseling program and the use of data, the Skyview School Counselors assist students to achieve academic success, become career/work ready, and become persons of Character.

The School Counselors at Skyview are an integral part of the educational setting,  creating a safe and supportive school climate for all students in which learning and personal growth occur, and in meeting individualized student needs.

The School Counselors at Skyview are agents of systemic change, leaders in education,  professionals who collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, community members, and outside agencies as they advocate for students and for the school counseling program.
