The Woodland faculty and staff provide a variety of after school activities for students at Woodland Elementary School.  These activities help students enhance their self-esteem and social skills while enabling them to continue building their educational foundation.

After school activities currently running include the following:

    Chess Club
Chess Club meets the first and third Thursday of each month after school from 3:35 to 4:35. This may vary at times and a schedule is available from Mr. McDonough. It is open to students from 2nd grade to 4th grade. The Club welcomes beginners as well as experienced players. The members are encouraged to enjoy learning and playing chess. Good sportsmanship is promoted at all times.

Chess Club also has some activities throughout the year including Chess Fun Day. For more information or questions please email Mr. McDonough: dmcdonough@methacton.org

    Homework Club
Homework Club meets twice a week from late October through April, from 3:45-4:45 at Woodland Elementary School.  Students in second through fourth grade receive homework support and guidance in a quiet, structured setting.  This encourages them to be self-starters for homework.  Through this additional assistance, students learn to organize their time and materials, prioritize homework assignments, and complete assignments in both a timely and neat manner.

    After School Sports

The After-School Sports program at Woodland builds fitness through fun.  It is recommended that children participate in physical activity for at least sixty minutes per day.  This program affords third and fourth grade students the opportunity to get an hour of physical activity, while learning and practicing sport specific skills. The activities vary according to the season and student interest. Several mini-games happen simultaneously to allow for maximum participation and less frustration (teams switch opponents every 10 minutes).  Proper conduct and good sportsmanship are stressed on an on-going basis because of their importance in game situations, as well as, everyday interactions with family members, teachers and friends.
