To the Parents of Incoming Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors,
With the Summer Reading program, the Methacton High School English department promotes the importance of reading year-round and how fundamental it is to lifelong learning. We hope that families will support this initiative and encourage students to read this summer.
The summer reading assignment for all students in Academic and Honors level English classes is to read a book at the appropriate grade level (books written for young adults). We have created a list of suggested titles. Books labeled as “classics” are in the public domain and available for free online. All books listed are available as eBooks, either for free or through purchase. Along with our high school librarian, we have also provided information about ways to obtain eBooks. The suggested summer reading list and all pertinent information is available on the high school web page.
Students taking AP Literature & Composition and AP Language & Composition have separate required readings and summer work to complete. They are posted on a link on the high school website.
It is our hope that the variey of literature will stimulate healthy oral and written discousre from our students to begin the new school year.
We hope you agree that your child should continue the skill of reading while away from school and that you will support the English Department’s initiative.
Sincerely,
Steve Rice
English Department Coordinator
