Regulations
I. Dress requirements
A. All students are required to dress for Physical Education class.
1. Regulation uniforms may be purchased from the P.E. staff.
2. You may elect to wear a plain white or grey crew neck t-shirt (no markings or lettering) or any
Methacton wear, including t-shirts / shorts supporting all activities.
3. All uniforms should be marked with your name only!
4. Sneakers are required and must be tied appropriately! No other footwear can be used indoors.
Footwear that has heels or metal is not permitted.
5. Socks must be worn.
6. Shorts are to be worn pulled up to the top of the hip bone. No low riders!
Anything worn under the uniform must be completely covered by the uniform. Do not
alter your uniform in any way.
7. Sweat suits (any color) may be worn over the uniform when outside, or at teachers
discretion (put on your sweats after roll call).
8. Physical Education uniforms must be different from clothing worn to school.
B. If you do not have your uniform you can not participate in the physically active section of class. You have the opportunity to make-up the class within ten school days. This will only be allowed two times during the marking period. The third time a student is not prepared, loss of points occurs. This does not apply to aquatics.
II. Pool classes
Additional regulations are necessary for aquatics. They will be explained during the first class meeting. Towels and suits (with strings) are required for aquatics. Aquatics will be at least 2 or more semesters.
III. Safety
A. Eye goggles are always available for your protection just ask!!)
B. When you play sports in class always play the game and do not go for the player.
1. Avoid body contact, you reduce your risk of getting hurt or hurting someone else.
2. Intentionally causing or attempting to cause an injury will result in disciplinary action!
IV. Rules for the locker room
1. No food, beverages or gum anywhere.
2. No glass containers are permitted in the locker room.
3. Do not enter the P. E. office unless you are admitted by a teacher. You must always
knock first and wait to be let in. Disciplinary action will taken against any student in
the P. E. office without permission.
4. Do not play games in the locker room, stand on the benches, throw things, or abuse
the lockers. DO NOT USE CELL PHONES IN LOCKER ROOM AREAS or GYM AREAS.
Keep locker room orderly and use containers for trash.
B. Locks
1. All students will be given a combination locker to keep their uniform and valuables
Make sure your locker is locked. This is your responsibility!!
2. Teachers will NOT be responsible for valuables lost or stolen because of carelessness or forgetfulness
3. Do not give your combination to anyone or let them use your locker.
4. Use only the locker you are assigned, do not move to another area.
5. Keep your locker locked at all times, lock up all valuables
V. Regulations for Physical Education class
A. All students are required to take and pass 6 semesters of physical education to be given
credit towards graduation.
B. Parental excuses will only be accepted twice during the marking period. Having a note is required for making
up the class.
C. Only students with an excuse from a medical doctor will be excused from participation in regular activities.
D. Students excused for two or more classes will be required to complete an independent study assignment. Those affected will be given more specific instructions at that time. Remember reports are due to the CSR at the end of each class period that you are there instead of in Physical Education class. -15points will be given for each report not handed in the day you are there. If absent from school for any reason or the assignment is not completed during that period, the daily assignment should be completed for homework and must be turned in to the teacher or CSR at the start of the next PE class period.
E. Medical excuses involving extended illness or injuries must be presented to your teacher within one week of the onset of your condition. Note: Any student affected by such situations, should request that all physical limitations or current physical abilities be listed on their prescribed doctor’s note. This will allow the PE teacher to adapt lessons based on individual need.
F. Permission to go to band, choral, driving lessons, etc., must be granted by the teacher before class.
Do not ask a friend to tell your teacher you won’t be there. One week is granted to make up the class.
G. Students late to class report directly to the teacher, wherever that class is being held, with a pass to admit you.
J. Appropriate language is expected of everyone.
K. No jewelry may be worn during class. Students may provide protective covering for newly pierced ears only. The type of covering must be approved by the teacher. Note: Refusal to remove jewelry will prohibit the student from participating in class and will result in 15 points removed from the student’s grade for that class.
VI. Any variation of the course requirements / regulations will be at the discretion of the P. E. teacher / staff.
VII. Grading system
A. A “percentage” grade will be recorded on the report card. There will be four P. E. grades during the year
and a final grade for each semester. An “I” will be recorded when a student has not completed the requirements for that marking period or they have accumulated too many absences (6 or more) and have started to make them up!! Any grade of “I” must be made up within two weeks or will result in a failure for that marking period.
B. Part of your grade will based on 100 pts. for preparation and participation.
1. Each student begins every marking period at 100 points. If you participate regularly, demonstrate responsibility and develop good habits
essential to class you should pass.2. Minus points are recorded for the following infractions:
a. -20 cutting class
b. -20 leaving gym area before bell
c. -20 dismissal from class for disciplinary reasons
d. -20 points will be deducted for each missed fitness assessment.
e. -15 refusal to take class
*f. -15 absent, (excused, dr. ed., band, guidance, field trips, etc.) ten school days for make up
g. -10pts. Having gum in class.
h. -5 late to the gym, late for roll, jewelry not removed as class begins
i. -5 unacceptable language and/or (possible detention)
j. -5 for each piece of uniform missing

C. Part of your grade will be based on 100 pts. for Effort ,Attitude and Conduct
1. Effort - Intensity and motivation you display or put forth in each class.
a. Assessed each class for warm-up, skill work and game play.
b. Plus or minus points are awarded each day, which can enhance or negatively effect grading
2. Attitude and Conduct -Expressed by you towards teachers & peers during physical education class.
a. You are expected to behave appropriately at all times.
b. The following actions are not acceptable or tolerated at any time or for any reason. Disciplinary consequences and/or minus points may occur.
1). Unacceptable language, intimidating or harassing others, fighting or unnecessary contact
2). Lack of respect for instructor or others.
3). Poor sportsmanship.
D. Part of your grade may be based on the results of skill and written tests. You are responsible for making up any missed work within Ten school days.
E. Make-up classes - Minus points accumulated due to absences only, can be made up!!!
1. Absences may be made up primarily by coming after school at 2:25 and completing a prescribed workout. Swimming makeups are at the same time in the pool area and consist of swimming 20 lengths per class missed.
Alternative ways should be discussed with your instructor.
Ten school days to make up classes.
2. Arrangements must be made with your instructor to make up any classes you missed, (make an appointment) only two classes can be made up at any one time.
VIII. Fitness Assessment
Everyone is required to complete various fitness assessments throughout the semester. Only a doctor’s note can excuse a student from any of the assessments. The student still may be required to perform a modified activity.You are to try your best during each assessment.
Effort or lack of it is judged accordingly and may result in point deductions
Failure to complete these assessments will result in minus points that will not be allowed to be made up.
Students with two or more gym classes in a semester must complete the fitness assessments for each class in which they are enrolled.
If you are not in class the day of the fitness assessments, complete assessments during the make-up period. No points lost if you complete the assessments during the specified make-up time. When the make-up time expires additional points will be deducted.
IX. Failure in physical education (don’t let this happen to you!)
. The most common ways to receive less than 60%:
1. Having -81pts. due to unprepared, not participating and/or lack of effort.
2. Missing six or more classes (without making any up)
Percentage grading scale
100 - 90% 0 to -21 pts.
. 89 - 80% -22 to -41pts.
79 - 70% -42 to -61 pts.
69 - 60% -62 to -81 pts.
59 - 0% -82 to -200pts.
