AP French 2018-19 Summer Assignments

Objectives:

·         To continue practicing French skills throughout the summer

·         To expand vocabulary via authentic readings and thematic vocabulary

·         To become more at ease with speaking about and listing to a variety of topics

Expectations:

·         It is expected that you complete the summer assignments listed below in preparation for AP French before the first day of class in September. This work will count as your first test grade, and points will be deducted for all work not completed.

LE TRAVAIL 

Lire en français:

·         Allez au site web de Mme Phelps et téléchargez le roman abrégée Candide de Voltaire. Lisez-le et répondez aux questions dans votre journal en lisant le roman.

o   Go to Mme Phelps’ website and download the abridged novel Candide by Voltaire. Read it and answer the questions in your journal while you are reading the book.

Écrire en français:

·         Un proverbe français dit: « Les voyages forment la jeunesse. ».  Selon vous, quel rôle est-ce que les voyages peuvent jouer dans le développement des jeunes de votre âge? Écrivez un essai pour exprimer vos pensées sur ce sujet. Ecrivez (ne tapez pas) vos pensées DANS votre journal. N’oubliez pas un paragraphe d’introduction, des exemples de vos expériences, et une conclusion!

o   A French proverb says, "Traveling forms youth." According to you, what role can travel play in the formation of young people of your age. Respond to the prompt in a well-developed handwritten composition with an introduction, body, and closing, noting examples and personal experiences.

·         Allez au site - https://savoirs.rfi.fr/fr . Cliquez sur APPRENDRE ET ENSEIGNER LE FRANÇAIS, puis cliquez sous PAR OBECTIF « Comprendre le Fait du Jour » Vous y trouverez plusieurs thèmes et niveaux pour choisir.  Écoutez deux reportages bien différents et faites les exercices qui accompagnent l’audio. Cliquez sur « voir les réponses » et empruntez vos pages. N’oubliez pas d’inclure le titre et la date de reportage et mettez-les dans votre journal. 

o   Go to this site https://savoirs.rfi.fr/fr. Click on “Apprendre et Enseigner Le Francais, then click under PAR Objectif “Comprendre le Fait du Jour There you will find several themes and niveaux from which to choose. Listen to two different reports and do the exercises that accompany the audio.  Correct with the key provided and print out your page(s) of responses.

o   The purpose of this is to train your ear to hearing the French language. It will improve your listening skills and help you to quickly understand the main idea of what you hear. It will also accustom you to authentic French and the various accents you will hear throughout the year. Write the date and the title of the article you heard in your journal. Cut and paste your response pages neatly into your journal.

·         Trouver un film que vous connaissez bien, et regardez-le en français. Si la vidéo n’a pas de sélection française pour « les langues » ou « les sous-titres », choisissez un autre film. Il y en a beaucoup qui offrent le français comme un choix. Vous pouvez chercher un film américain ou français. L’idée est d’entendre le français, mais aussi comprendre l’histoire. Marquez le nom du film dans votre journal … et la date que vous l’avez vu. Expliquez pourquoi vous avez choisi ce film (au moins 2-3 phrases en français).

 Chanter en français :

·         Au site http://platea.pntic.mec.es/~cvera/hotpot/chansons/index.htm choisissez une chanson à écouter et faites les exercices qui l’accompagnent. Cliquez sur « Choisissez une chanson », ensuite choisissez « niveau moyen ». Vous verrez une liste d’artistes. Ecrivez votre choix dans votre journal, et ajoutez un petit paragraphe qui explique vos sentiments de cette chanson.

o   At the site listed above choose one song to listen to and do the exercises that accompany it. Click on “choose a song”, and then choose “average level”. You will see a list of artists. Write your choice in your journal and add a short paragraph that explains your feelings for this song.

o   As in the podcast activity, the purpose of this is to train your ear to hearing French and to improving your listening skills. It will also help you to practice saying words if you decide to learn them and sing along!

Parler en français :

·         Présentation:

If you could talk non-stop about ANYTHING, without having to do any

research, or use any notes of any kind because you are an expert on the subject, what

would you talk about? On the first or second day of school, you will have 2-3 minutes in the spotlight to speak, non-stop, in French about the topic of your choice. No notes. No question and answer session. Just you, talking. This will be fun – I will not be looking for perfection; I will just be listening to your thoughts and looking for fluidity … not fluency …  and learning where your abilities lie with pronunciation and intonation.  J

·         Étudiez la liste de vocabulaire que je vous ai donné. Ajoutez autres mots que vous ne comprenez pas à la liste pendant que vous êtes en train de lire ou d’écouter les podcasts ou la musique. Il y aura un quiz de mots de transitions au début de septembre.

·         Study the vocabulary list that I gave to you. Add other words to the list that you don’t understand while you are in the process of reading or listening to the podcasts or the music. There will be a quiz on transition words in September.
