• Hi, I am Mrs. Hartson, the secondary counseling coordinator for our school district.  I have been a counselor for over 30 years and really enjoy working with students and their parents.  Originally from Fairport, NY, I am a graduate of SUNY Geneseo with a BA in Psychology and I earned my MS Ed. from St. Bonaventure University in Community Counseling with a certification in secondary school counseling.   I have completed additional graduate credits from a variety of other colleges or universities.  I am married with two children, both Methacton graduates.  Boy do I know what parents and students are going through with the college admissions process!  Having gone through the process on a personal level gave me a life lesson for my job in working with parents and students.  If  I can give you one message through this experience it would be to tell you that you are not alone!  Ask me any question at anytime!  The most important message I have for you is that you will survive this process.

I coordinate the counseling program for grades 7-12 and as a MHS counselor, I am responsible for students with the last names beginning  St-Z.  I really enjoy working with students individually as well as in small groups.  Students may make appointments to meet with me via the two secretaries anytime during the school day.  I am also accessible via email at chartson@methacton.org. My phone number is 610-489-5000, ext. 25038.

For the parents and students I work with, I would like to share my favorite websites:

www.collegeboard.org  - great site for looking at colleges, careers, and SAT registration, be careful, this site can be very addicting to parents!  My College Quick Start is also on this site and allows students to review their individual PSAT scores along with a personalized study plan.  Ask me more about this opportunity!

www.fastweb.com - this site allows students to fill out a survey for scholarship information

http://connection.naviance.com/methacton - this is a password protected site that is currently  available to all students after they have received an orientation.  Students may request their transcripts through this site, track their paperwork being sent out to colleges, request teacher recommendations, sign up for college representative visits, compare past grads acceptance rates to various colleges, and are able to complete a variety of inventories as they relate to future career and college planning.   There is also a national scholarship search component within this program as well.

www.educationplanner.com - great site for interest inventories, resume writing, and college searches

www.acementor.org - this is for students interested in pursuing careers and college majors in architecture, construction management, or engineering.  There is a free program that allows students to meet every other week (off site) to hear from professionals in the field and there is a group project that the students work on.  Scholarship opportunities are available for participants to apply to as well.

www.pfew.org - The Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week is a wonderful program that allows students to learn about running a company.  It is a one week summer program that brings students from Pennsylvania Schools together to learn about the free enterprise system and running a company.   Past graduates of our school have participated in this program and loved it.  Many had the opportunity to confirm that they want to pursue business as a future major whereas others found that that may not be a great major for them to consider.

Please keep in mind that each graduating class has their own Google Classroom which has a wealth of knowledge posted by the class congress, school counelors, as well as other educators.
